As the Senior Cloud Engineer, your job purpose is to

  • Be the primary delivery point of technical and security expertise and knowledge within the global Systems and Technology function.
  • Deliver highly available, reliable, stable, and secure, IT systems and services to the global client base, and internal Group IT and Business systems teams.
  • Proactively engage with clients and internal teams to understand their service requirements and expectations, build strong client and inter-team relationships, and manage expectations
  • Ensure IT service delivery meets SLA and quality standards with a view to constantly driving service delivery improvements and high levels of service satisfaction.
  • Split your time between - 60% project work, 20% systems maintenance and 20% 1st/2nd and 3rd line support

What you’ll be doing

  • Collaborate with the Systems and Technology function teams, business, and partners, to plan, design, develop, secure, implement and operate new, and changes to existing, infrastructure services (desktop, Azure, 3rd party SaaS services, systems, software, and components).
  • Provide 1st / 2nd/3rd line infrastructure and operational support as required.
  • Ensure that new infrastructure services are built, documented and delivered into business operation on time, to budget, meeting defined quality standards.
  • Primary Accountabilities - Identify, create and apply service and operational performance metrics, controls, procedures, processes, tools, techniques, standards, and organisational architectures to:
    • contribute to the design, development and application of approved, secure, enterprise and solution architectures.
    • provide technical and architectural expertise to enable the planning, design, installation, provision, configuration, operation, implementation, testing, maintenance, and decommissioning of infrastructure services.
    • supervise technical staff performing complex technical activities.
    • design and deliver new, complex, IT solutions or system components.
    • create, design and deliver service, status, and operational reports.
  • In support of the primary accountabilities above you will also
    • manage stakeholder expectations, assisting and keeping them informed of actions taken and progress.
    • Develop, document, and implement approved changes in line with change control procedures.
    • Ensure the details of all IT components, and configuration items, are recorded to maintain an accurate register of the full lifecycle of IT assets.
    • Design infrastructure test plans, conditions, cases, and scripts under own direction, recording and analysing test outcomes and reporting on test activities, results, issues, and risks.
    • Automate provisioning and routine system administration, testing and deployment tasks using standard tools and basic scripting.
  • Support Infrastructure Services
    • Monitor and assesses the external environment for emerging technologies and contributes to the creation of technology roadmaps.
    • Act as the routine contact point between the business and suppliers, benchmarking, performance monitoring and gathering supplier market intelligence.
    • Participate in operational activity, including system backup/restore of client services.
    • Carry out agreed application administration and maintenance tasks and identifies and resolves application issues.
    • Provide clients with support in problem identification, investigation and diagnosis in systems, processes and services escalating unresolved problems as appropriate.
    • Identify, proactively investigate and report problems, application and operational issues and contribute to their resolution.
    • Perform audits to verify the accuracy of information and undertaking any necessary corrective action
  • Secondary Accountabilities
    • Grant authorised physical access to local IT facilities and carries out routine facilities audits.
    • Provide technical expertise to contribute to the development and maintenance of infrastructure, operational, disaster recovery and business continuity routines, processes, procedures, policies, and standards and ensures their correct application.

What we are looking for

  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent operational experience
  • Extensive 3rd, 2nd and 1st line infrastructure development and support experience
  • Extensive experience of delivering IT projects on time and in budget
  • Some Azure Architecture design and security experience
  • Proven record of managing the full infrastructure development lifecycle, including requirements capture, analysis, design, test, documentation, maintenance, and configuration management.
  • Demonstrable network installation, configuration and troubleshooting experience.
  • Firewall configuration and management (NAT, Firewall, Web, Filter, VPN, Secure Service Edge) expertise
  • Windows Server 2016+ and Office 365 (Exchange, SharePoint, Office Suite) experience
  • Infrastructure hardening and security risk management
  • Ability to structure work and prioritise effectively in a fast pace and very dynamic business environment.
  • Results orientated with excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience of working closely with internal/external stakeholders throughout the group, and partners, to capture infrastructure requirements and acceptance criteria using a range of development techniques.
  • Ability to ensure the implications of business decisions/changes are understood by all parties.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, including a thorough understanding of how to elicit and interpret customer/stakeholder business needs and translate them into business/operational/technical requirements.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong and lasting business relationships, internally and externally, acting as a trusted advisor.
