As the Senior Technical Manager your job purpose is to

  • Play a critical leadership role in ensuring product quality, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across the consumer healthcare product portfolio
  • Oversee technical quality operations, manage quality systems, and serve as the primary technical quality expert within the organisation.
  • Define and deliver an appropriate portfolio of technical projects to time, cost and quality
  • Devise and deliver strategies to mitigate or remedy technical risks/issues to ensure continuity of supply including raw material or process changes within the portfolio.
  • Manage the Technical Team ensuring they are aligned with global and regional business needs and objectives
  • Manage and prepare the budget, forecasting spends and adhere to it.

What you’ll be doing

Leadership & People Development

  • Manage / Lead the Technical team acting as line manager, mentor and role model
  • Foster a culture of quality, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop succession plans and drive technical capability building.

Quality Leadership & Oversight

  • Lead quality assurance and technical quality activities across contract manufacturers (CMOs), and third-party suppliers.
  • Act as SME for GMP, GDP, and relevant GxP regulations in consumer healthcare.
  • Lead product quality reviews (PQRs), deviation management, and CAPA oversight.
  • Serve as Quality lead for technical transfer, validation, and new product introduction (NPI) projects.
  • Work closely with the Quality Project Manager to ensure technical projects are aligned and co-ordinated.
  • Deliver other business projects as required

Quality Systems & Compliance

  • Ensure robust implementation and maintenance of Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Monitor, assess, and improve quality metrics (e.g. deviations, complaints, right-first time).
  • Conduct internal audits and host external inspections (e.g. MHRA, FDA).
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and process standardisation.

Technical Support

  • Provide expert technical guidance on quality issues related to formulation, packaging, stability, and shelf life.
  • Support troubleshooting activities related to product quality and manufacturing issues.
  • Evaluate and approve technical documentation, including specifications, validation protocols, and change controls.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Regulatory, R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to ensure quality is embedded throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Work closely with CMO’s to ensure that Alliance products are appropriately validated.
  • Represent the Quality department in cross-functional governance meetings and project reviews.

What we are looking for

  • A bachelor's degree (or higher) in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Life Sciences, or related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in Quality/Technical roles within the consumer healthcare, pharmaceutical, or OTC sector.
  • Deep knowledge of GMP, ICH guidelines, ISO standards, and global regulatory requirements.
  • Proven track record of leading quality initiatives, managing audits, and resolving complex quality issues.
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers or global supply chains would be highly advantageous
  • Lean Six Sigma certification or similar process improvement credentials would be useful
  • Experience with digital quality systems (e.g., TrackWise, Veeva, SAP QM) would also be highly regarded
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills
  • High attention to detail with analytical problem-solving ability
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management
  • Adaptable, proactive, and quality-driven mindset
  • Project management and prioritisation skills
